New Trend Alert: Calf implants

New Trend Alert: Calf implants

You've heard of upper body implants such as breast augmentation, and for the face, chin and cheek implants. Now, implants are heading way south in the form of calf implants.

According to Robert Hunsaker, M.D., a board certified Miami plastic surgeon specializing in procedures of the face and body, there's been a demand for calf implants, especially in Miami where the procedures is more common than other parts of the country. He says both men and women are seeking the surgery, and for various reasons, including being born with small calves, or to treat atrophy for neurological problems.

The surgery involves a small incision in the crease behind the knee in order to insert silicone implants into the calves. These implants are solid and can not leak. They also feel more like muscle, says Hunsaker. Most of the patients seeking calf implants are in their 30s and 40s. Risks such as displaced implants and fluid collection are minimal, and more likely to occur if your surgeon lacks experience. Hunsaker, a renowned surgeon and researcher, has extensive experience, and is a fellow of the prestigious Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons.

After this procedure, many patients report feeling more confident about their appearance and comfortable wearing clothing that shows off their legs.
