Hispanics and Plastic Surgery

Hispanics and Plastic Surgery

Despite a sluggish economy, the phenomenon known as ethnic plastic surgery is on the rise, especially among Hispanics.

Ethnic plastic surgery among African-Americans, Hispanics and Asians were up 11 percent in 2008, while it dropped among Caucasians two percent in the same year, this according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Hispanics accounted for 10 percent of the 12 million cosmetic plastic surgery procedures that year.

What procedures are Hispanics getting the most? Latinos are most interested in liposuction, breast augmentation and ethnic rhinoplasty. As for non-invasive procedures, Botox, fillers and chemical peels topped the list. The bonus side for Hispanics is that since many have darker pigmentation, they tend not to show the signs of aging until later in life. However, it can also work against them. Hispanics are at risk of scarring and pigment abnormalities, which is why they should always choose a board certified plastic surgeon who has vast experience dealing with ethnic skin.
